AMENDMENT FELON
SUMMARY
Our
newest book,
a biography of Frank Wilkinson,
is now available. It is written by Robert Sherrill, a respected,
incisive and engaging writer. Frank Wilkinson’s life weaves
through all of the important political change movements of the
twentieth century. Weaving is really too passive a term, as
Frank connects to and through these movements with a common
theme and purpose. Frank helped these movements continue to
exist while learning of and opposing government attempts to
neutralize them. His purpose was empowerment through education,
supporting active vocal opposition and solidarity.
All the movements of the Twentieth Century were targeted by
the U.S. government under the theory that their ideas were subversive,
and overtly and covertly the government sought to render them
ineffective. In First Amendment Felon,
you will understand both the power and perceived threat of the
First Amendment, and you can follow along in Wilkinson’s
shoes, traveling the country learning his work and then discovering
the intensity with which the government tried to destroy his
efforts. This book also will lay out the larger context of political
change movements and their relationship to the government in
the 20th century for a macro perspective, to fill out the more
focused viewpoint of one significant life. Many of Frank’s
stories are remarkable on their own. Their full impact is best
understood in the larger landscape they helped carve.
